Town Clerk

The Merrimac Town Clerk’s Office is committed to providing the general public with essential documents and day-to-day services. The Town Clerk’s office is dedicated to the preservation of the Town’s official and vital records and statistics. Among other duties, the Town Clerk records and certifies all votes passed at Town Meeting, administers and records oaths of office to town officials and records various instruments as required by law. The Town Clerk also issues certificates and licenses, prepares street and voting lists and supervises all elections.

Doing Business As (DBA)

Certificates

Business Certificates must be filed by an unincorporated business located in Merrimac that is operating under a name other than one’s own, such as, Helen Good DBA Good Cards and Gifts. The fee for a Business Certificate is $25 and the certificate is valid for 4 years. Certificates must be renewed every 4 years if the business remains in operation.

Hunting and Fishing Licenses

Obtaining a License
Hunting and fishing licenses are no longer sold at the Town Clerk’s office. The Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (DFW) has announced that all licenses and permits will be obtained electronically from either a home computer, participating license vendor, or from a DFW office. Notary Services

Service
Notary Services are available in the Clerk’s office. The individual having his/her signature notarized must provide proper identification.

Reminder
Documents must be signed in the presence of the Notary. Do not sign the document ahead of time.

Raffle Permits

A raffle permit is required by any organization that intends to hold a raffle. Only non-profit organizations that have been in existence at least 2 years qualify for a raffle permit. Permits are $10 each and run for 1 calendar year

Dog Licenses

Specifics
All dogs 6 months of age or older must be licensed, (Massachusetts General Law Chapter 140, Section 137) evidence of a current rabies vaccination must be provided. Dogs are licensed at the Office of Town Clerk and run from April 1 to March 31 of each year.

Dog owners age 70 or older will not be charged a license fee, but will be charged late fees if applicable.
